A truly American art form, the blues came out of slaves singing in the field while they picked cotton. The music was then performed on street corners in the rural south, until the singers started migrating north to look for work. They landed in cities like Chicago and Detroit where factory work was plentiful, and played music at night and on weekends, amplifying it to be heard over the crowds in the bars they were playing in. This led to the era of “electric blues”, which garnered the attention of music fans worldwide, and made the artists worldwide celebrities. This website is designed to showcase that history and also point to the present and the future of the music.
